OmeVidChat FAQ
Everything people ask about OmeVidChat — the free, Omegle-style random video chat. Don't see your question? Check how it works, the safety page, or the Terms.
Start a random video chat →- What is OmeVidChat?
- OmeVidChat is a free random video chat that pairs you with a random stranger on live webcam and text. Press Start, get matched, and press New stranger to move on. No account, no app — it's an Omegle-style site.
- Is OmeVidChat free?
- Yes — completely free. No account, no subscription, no install, no "premium" tier.
- Is OmeVidChat the same as Omegle?
- No, but it works the same way. Omegle — the original random video chat — shut down in November 2023. OmeVidChat is a separate, independent site built as an alternative: same idea (random pairing, video, text, "next" button), different operator, not affiliated with Omegle. More on the Omegle alternative page and in what happened to Omegle.
- Do I need a webcam and microphone?
- Yes — both, and they must actually work. You can't join the queue without a working camera and mic, and if your camera goes dark or covered the site removes you. That's deliberate: it keeps the chat full of real people instead of black screens and bots.
- Does it work on my phone?
- Yes. OmeVidChat runs in modern mobile browsers (Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS, etc.) as well as on desktop. There's nothing to download.
- Is it anonymous?
- You don't make a profile, give an email, or sign in. You pick a gender and age range so matching works, and that's it. For safety and legal reasons the site does keep limited moderation records — periodic camera screenshots and a log of chat messages, stored with the sender's IP for a short retention window. See the Terms & Safety rules for specifics.
- How old do I have to be?
- Strictly 18 or older. You must confirm your age and accept the Terms before you can start. OmeVidChat is not for minors.
- How do I skip to someone new?
- Press New stranger ⏭. You're disconnected from the current chat and re-matched with another waiting user, usually in seconds.
- How do I leave a chat completely?
- Press Stop. That ends the chat and takes you back to the start screen.
- How do I report someone?
- Press ⚠ Report during the chat. It flags that user to moderators, who can review reports and ban abusers' IPs. Please use it — it works.
- Can I choose who I'm matched with?
- You can choose to talk to anyone, men, or women on the pre-join screen. The actual person is random — that's the whole point of random video chat.
- Is there an OmeVidChat (or Omegle) app?
- No. OmeVidChat runs in your browser; there's no app. There was never an official Omegle app either — be wary of unrelated "Omegle" apps in app stores.
- Why was I disconnected or removed?
- Most likely your camera went dark/covered (a working camera is required), you were reported and a moderator acted, or your IP was banned for breaking the rules. Network drops can also end a call — just press Start again.
- Is OmeVidChat safe?
- It's 18+ and moderated — Report button, admin dashboard, IP bans, limited moderation records, and a black-camera check. But like any "talk to strangers" site, your safety also depends on you: don't share personal info, assume you can be recorded, and report bad behavior. Read the video chat safety tips.
- Does video go through your server?
- No — video and audio go directly browser-to-browser (WebRTC) whenever possible. A relay only kicks in for users on strict networks. The server just handles matchmaking, text chat, and moderation. More in how it works.
- I have another question / found a problem.
- Check the Terms & Safety rules for contact and abuse-reporting addresses.
